“He might be the oldest voter in Albany County,” said poll worker Sharon Boehlke, who took this picture of Glenn Durban voting Tuesday morning at New Scotland Town Hall. Durban is 101. “He said that this is the day he was living for,” reported Boehlke who also reported Durban refused to use his walker but instead stood on his own to vote. Born in the United States of Danish parents, he was raised in Denmark, returning to the U.S. on a college scholarship. When World War II broke out, he could have claimed his Danish citizenship, but, he said, “I felt civic obligation.” And, he said, he wanted to get the Germans out of Denmark. He was wounded on Iwo Jima. He had a career at General Electric and still lives in the Swift Road house he built himself where he and his wife, Sylvia, raised four sons and a daughter.
