Judy Tambasco, a retired Berne-Knox-Westerlo teacher, displays the award she was just presented on Wednesday by Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy for being the county’s Citizen of the Month, an honor she shares with Roz Moser. The pair started a 1,000 Books program at BKW 20 years ago, which is still going strong. Tambasco said in 1997 when the program was launched, “Research shows children are more successful at school if they’re introduced to books early.”
