New Salem Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will be hosting its 11th annual Teddy Bear Tea with Mrs. Claus for boys and girls on Sunday, Dec. 9, with seating at 1 pm at the New Salem Fire Station at 694 New Salem Road in Voorheesville. This year’s Guest of Honor will be Santa Claus!!

The Grafton Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will host a snowmobile safety course for young people ages 10 to 18. Students must be at least 10 years old on the day of the course. Parents are encouraged to attend and participate. The course will be held at the Grafton VFW/Fire Hall on South Road from 8:15 am to approximately 5 pm. The course will be taught by NYS certified volunteer instructor Jim Blessing.

Come explore the museum on a quiet afternoon, then join the Dudley Observatory for an exciting astronomy lesson presented by our Outreach Astronomer, Dr. Valerie Rapson. “Red Scare on Main Street!” - Dr. Gerald Zahavi, Professor of History at the University at Albany, will discuss how the 1918-1920 “Red Scare” affected upstate communities including the Capital District as State and Federal authorities reacted to ant-war activists during World War I and labor radicals in the immediate post-war period. Sponsored by the New Scotland Historical Association, this program will be presented at 7:30 p.m. at the Wyman Osterhout Community Center, 7 Old New Salem Rd., Voorheesville (New Salem) 12186.
