Come enjoy the trips we have offered and enjoy the adventure and camaraderie — and get away for a day.
Please spread the word to any senior in the town of New Scotland who is 62 or older to join us. Have some fun and adventure; there is something for everyone.
To sign up, call me, Susan Kidder, at 439-9038; leave a message and I will call back to confirm. We have 14 seats, to be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
If possible, two buses will be used with a minimum of six people on the bus locally and minimum of eight for out-of-town trips.
Participants must prepay for all events with checks made out to the specified venue with the event name and date filled in on the memo line.
When trips become filled, they are no longer listed. Those who signed up will be called with time and place of pick-up a day or so before.
Scheduled programs and meetings
The free exercise program that is offered at the community center has changed its name. The Healthy Bones for Life program was written by Janet Hakey-Brusgul, a physical therapist at Sunnyview Outpatient Therapy Services and assistant professor of physical therapy at Sage Colleges.
There are now six trained leaders. They meet at the Wyman Osterhout Community Center in New Salem every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. Come join them any time you can.
The first and third Wednesday of every month, the New Scotland Seniors meet at the community center at 12:30 p.m. for a potluck lunch followed by a business meeting at 1 p.m.
Every Thursday, there’s a movie at the Voorheesville Public Library. The show starts at 1:30 p.m.
Transportation
The town of New Scotland has two cars to take seniors living in New Scotland only to medical appointments, Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
This program runs with volunteer drivers and money donations from riders. No fee is charged; a donation is suggested of $5 each way for out-of-town trips and a few dollars each way within town. If you don’t have the means, you will never be denied a ride. Amounts are only suggestions.
Please give as much notice as possible so we can schedule and find a volunteer to drive you. Dialysis and chemotherapy appointments take precedence over all other appointments. This is a curb-to-curb service. The program is run at the discretion of the senior outreach liaison and the program committee.

If schools are closed because of inclement weather, all trips are cancelled. Money for events will be refunded if possible.

— Saturday, Sept. 15, Sharon Springs Harvest Fest offers lots of walking, vendors, garage sales, and food; we’ll leave the area at 8:45 a.m. admission is free;
— Monday, Sept. 17, Rensselaer senior lunch of open-faced turkey sandwich for a $3 donation;
— Wednesday, Sept. 19, Senior citizens congregate meal (bring a dish to share and a plate and place service) at the Community Center at 12:30 p.m. Stay and play cards and games afterwards;
— Thursday, Sept. 20, Robert Frost Museum on a donation basis and “The Village Peddler Chocolatorium”. Lunch stop at Chauncy’s in Arlington, Vermont;
—Friday, Sept.21, a movie at the Spectrum Theater. Any movie from 3:15 to 4 p.m with dinner out at a restaurant with the cost on the senior;
— Saturday, Sept. 22, the Berne Lutheran Church Pancake Breakfast at 9:30 a.m. This is on a donation basis. The menu includes blueberry or plain pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and more;
— Tuesday, Sept. 25, the Saratoga Casino “Club 55 Day” buffet lunch costing $5.95 and chances to win grand prize for the day with a Club 55 card. Departing area around 9 a.m. and leaving the casino around 3:15 p.m. Suggested bus donation $5 each way;
— Thursday, Sept. 27, Westerlo lunch menu of soup and sandwich with a suggested donation of $5. Leaving the area at 11 a.m.;
— Friday, Sept. 28, Bingo at the community center from noon to 3 p.m. with a fee of $2. Hot dogs before the game, cost $1.50;
— Saturday, Sept. 29, Hudson Valley Garlic Festival in Saugerties from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with lots of vendors, crafts, walking, bring sun protection.The admission is $10. Leaving the area at 8:30 a.m.; and
— Saturday, Sept. 29, the Berne Reformed Church Pork Supper, cost $11. Leaving at 3:00 p.m. for 3:30 p.m. seating.
