Last week I was called "elderly" and, fact be told, every time I turn around that is what I hear.
On the radio and television, and in the newspaper.
I can't quite figure it out but I think they either want to get rid of us or make money off of us.
There are all kinds of housing out there if you want to downsize. But you have to have money.
Have you seen some of these places that are called condos or townhouses with a golf range, swimming pool, workout room, and trips to various places?
I listened to a radio show helping people with their estate planning, talking about trusts, and signing your property over so you won't lose your money when you go into a nursing home. So, tell me who is making the money?
One of the commentators explained that you need money when you go into a nursing home or else you will be given $50 a month — enough for a haircut and to play bingo. I wanted to tear the outlet off the wall.
With or without money, the care you receive in a nursing home is the same. Been there, done that. And what else is there to do in a nursing home that you need money?
So, you "elderly" people, enjoy what you have and, if you don't have it, join the crowd!

Shirley Slingerland wanted me to report on a trip to a steam train and riverboat excursion. This will take place July 12. For members, the cost is $60; for non-members, the cost is $85. Call Shirley Slingerland at 797-3467. As you see, it pays to be a member.
We don't ask for much, be on the kitchen committee, and go on trips, and enjoy the second Saturday of the month having a good time.
