These local students have recently distinguished themselves:

— Hayley Mattice of Schenectady, was one of 202 State University of New York College at Oneonta freshmen who spent their first full day in Oneonta volunteering in the community. Students moved into their residence hall on Sunday, Aug. 25, and participated in the college’s sixth annual Freshman Service Day the next day.

Mattice, whose SUNY Oneonta major is international studies, is a graduate of Guilderland High School;
