Here is the second installment of the year in review for local high school sports. This week will wrap up the winter and fall sports for Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo high schools.

Though the small schools continued to have success, the 2006-07 school year will be remembered as the Year of the Dutch.

GUILDERLAND — Lacrosse is Scott Raffensperger’s life.

He has put a lot of work into the sport and it has gotten him to the highest pinnacle a high-school athlete can reach. He’s been named an All-American.

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland girls’ lacrosse team concluded its season by honoring the 2007 Section II Championship varsity team and the junior varsity team at the year-end banquet.

GUILDERLAND — Pure athleticism, desire, and hustle are the best words used to describe Nikki Branchini.

VOORHEESVILLE — John McClement is a man on the move.

He’s given up coaching girls at Voorheesville to coach boys in Albany.

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland football team has made vast improvements in the past couple of years. And nothing shows that more than this: Four Dutchmen will take their talents to the collegiate level.

VOORHEESVILLE —Small school, big-time players.

VOORHEESVILLE — The Voorheesville track team this year had its best season in the five years that Steve Relyea has been the coach.

He only expects things to get better.

GUILDERLAND — Guilderland High School senior Brian Rhodes-Devey put his track career on par with his cross-country exploits.
