Based on aid in the governor’s budget proposal, Voorheesville plans to add two new teaching positions. The school board delayed finalizing its $24 million budget, though, as it waits for an overdue state budget.

Supervisor Vasilios Lefkaditis continues to push for additional business districts in Knox as the board deals with the logistics of mapping out the three proposed districts and informing neighbors. Lefkaditis questioned the validity of the planning board’s recommendation against a new business district, calling members “a bunch of appointees.”

Trustee Richard Straut, newly elected to his appointed post, plans to continue the work he has started  — on water, sidewalks, and helping to develop a comprehensive plan for the village.

Petitions are due on April 17 for candidates seeking seats on Voorheesville school and library boards. Two incumbents have announced they are running — C. James Coffin for the school board and Janna Shillinglaw for the library board.

Planning chairman Robert Price says the current Knox garage is structurally sound and can be upgraded for $62,000 while building a new garage would be costly.

Few voters cast ballots in uncontested elections in Voorheesville and Altamont.

The Voorheesville Dionysians are producing a “Mary Poppins” musical that is, as director Robert Whiteman put it “entertaining on the surface” but rife with complex relationships to explore beneath.

Dan Dymes felt helpless in the wee hours of Wednesday morning as his Agway delivery truck was stuck in the snow and he watched the Prospect Terrace fire next door getting closer. In the end, he was grateful, although his truck was damaged and his mulch pallets unsellable, that no one was hurt.

Francis Reilly believes his years as a teacher and his years mentoring teachers will help him to be a compassionate business administrator for the Voorheesville schools.
