Following the closure of Rensselaerville Volunteer Ambulance, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office has had to offer an ambulance with an emergency medical provider as well as a paramedic in a fly car. This has led to an increase in the costs for the three Hilltowns served: Berne, Westerlo, and Rensselaerville.

Sue Britton, a long-time member of her local American Legion Auxiliary unit in Rensselaerville, has recently completed a months-long search for photos of armed forces members whose names are engraved at the Vietnam War memorial.

The Sheriff’s office is warning that heroin is in the Hilltowns and other rural areas of Albany County, and will be hosting a town-hall style event at Voorheesville’s high school next week on how to face the heroin epidemic.

In Westerlo, months after the town board enacted a new solar law, a California-based renewable-energy provider is looking to build an array in the town.

A Doppler radar tower that is based in East Berne and supplies information for most of the Capital Region was out of service for over two weeks, leaving meteorologists to look to other means of predicting the weather.

In Knox, a motorcycle carrying two people collided with a car at the intersection of Thompson’s Lake Road and Old Stage Road, leaving the motorcycle driver dead and his passenger injured.

As both Democrats and Republicans in Rensselaerville reflect on their difficulties in finding willing candidates, Republicans are still searching for a nominee for town supervisor. Current supervisor Valerie Lounsbury, a Republican, is not running, and a potential Republican candidate turned down the nomination.

Albany County’s Independence and Conservative parties have each endorsed a slate of Berne candidates, including those running against one another. In Knox, the Independence Party endorsed a slate of candidates already endorsed by the town’s Democratic Party, but two Republican-backed candidates are on the ballot, as well.

At the University at Albany, an increase in applicants may be due in part to an opportunity to attend tuition-free.

At the First Baptist Church in Westerlo, a church known for its missionary work, a former “missionary kid” has been chosen as the new pastor.
