NEW SCOTLAND — He and his friends would film each other doing tricks on their skateboards or snowboards. That’s how Dylan Longton of Slingerlands first got into making videos.

ALTAMONT — The popular Italian restaurant Mio Vino at 186 Main Street in Altamont has been closed for quite a few weeks now, while owner Michael Giorgio regroups.

About 15 residents gave impassioned speeches, all of them opposed to the plan for a larger lot for the gas station and convenience store.

Why was the zoning for a property targeted by a proposal for Stewart's Shops changed from light commercial to residential by the comprehensive plan?

 The village board is set to make a decision on the application at the public hearing scheduled for Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the village hall.

James R. Greene, who headed the village planning board when Stewart’s was exploring options in Altamont, said it was “an outright fabrication” that the board had suggested purchasing property in order to resolve issues.

Dressed as characters Jasmine or Belle, Claire Guyer walked around the fairgrounds to encourage people to visit the educational areas of the fair.

In traditional fair style, animals and agriculture were the spectacle when a team of huge Belgian draft mares pulled antique vehicles around the fairgrounds this year.

Teams of Belgian draft horses, owned by Kurt Johnson of Knox, will pull around the grounds some of the big wagons owned by the fair that have not been taken out in years.

The old machine has been tucked over in the back corner of a barn on the Altamont fairgrounds for years now, according to volunteer Andy Tinning.
