On Tuesday, Feb. 21, the Voorheesville Blackbirds boys’ basketball team hosted the Section 2, Class CC sectional game against the Rensselaer Rams. The Blackbirds never looked back, even when the Rams cut it to four, to win 54 to 38.

On Monday, Feb. 20, the Storm hockey team kicked off their Section 2 ice hockey championships as the 10 seed as they took on the LaSalle Cadets, the seven seed. It was choppy throughout the game and the Storm fell, 6 to 1.

On Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17 and 18, the Guilderville boys’ swim team competed in the Section 2 swimming championships at Shenendehowa High School. The team finished fifth overall with 253.5 points and qualified three individual swimmers and two relay teams for states.

Last Wednesday, Feb. 15, the Guilderland gymnastics team competed at Shaker High School in the Section 2 sectional championships against Saratoga, Bethlehem, and Shaker/Colonie.

The Guilderland bowling team competed against 19 other schools in the Section 2, Class A sectional championships, where each bowler threw six games, at Boulevard Bowl in Schenectady. The Dutch team finished third overall with 5818 total pins.

On Monday, Feb. 13, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Voorheesville bowling teams competed against 24 other schools in the Section 2, Class C sectional championships at Boulevard Bowl in Schenectady. Each bowler bowled six-games.

On Saturday, Feb. 11, Guilderland and Berne-Knox-Westerlo both participated in the 12th annual Raider Rumble held at Colonie High School. Both schools competed in the co-ed division, where Guilderland finished second.

On Saturday, Feb. 11, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Middleburgh and Guilderland brought their wrestlers up to the Cool Insuring Arena for the Section 2 state qualifier tournament. All seven Guilderland wrestlers placed, none qualified for states, and BKW fell in the first round.

On Sunday, Feb. 5, Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo competed in many events against the top Section 2 athletes at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, Guilderland wrestling hosted and competed in the Section 2 Division 1, Class 1 sectional championships. Fourteen wrestlers battled all of Class 1 wrestlers in order to qualify for this Saturday’s state qualifiers at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.

On Thursday, Feb. 2, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo girls basketball team hosted a rescheduled game against Schoharie at Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School. The Bulldogs defense pounced all over the Indians from start to finish in their 63 to 18 win.

On Tuesday, Jan. 31, the Guilderville boys’ swim team traveled to Albany High School to take on the Falcons on Senior Night for the Falcons. Teams tied after the 100-yard butterfly but Guilderville splashed past Albany to win 93 to 87.

On Sunday, Jan. 29, the Guilderland indoor track team took part in the Section 2, Division 1 sectionals competition at Union College. Guilderland girls led Saratoga 168 to 90 with the throwing competition, shot put, and weight throw, on Saturday.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, the indoor track teams of Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Voorheesville battled it out for sectional titles in the Section 2, Division 4 competition at Union College. Final standings won’t be known until Saturday when the school’s throwers compete in shot put and weight throw.

On Friday, Jan. 27, Guilderland’s Aniella Kennedy was one of over 200 female wrestlers to compete in the first-ever all girls New York State Public High School Athletic Association wrestling invitational. Kennedy competed in the 138-pound weight class where she finished fourth.
