Christine Austria

SPARROW BUSH, N.Y. — Christine Austria is someone who never became a  cynic.
She always thought the best of people.

“Think about the typical kindergarten teacher,” said her son Ruben Austria,  which is what she was, “and I don’t mean like she treated [people] like children.” 

Lois Ann Kudlack

Lois Ann Kudlack of South Daytona, Florida, who loved exploring new things, died on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021, in Halifax Hospital in Daytona. She was 69.
“She is reunited in Heaven with her husband, Michael Kudlack, who died on Feb. 7, 2001,” her family wrote in a tribute.

Michael Zelezniak

GUILDERLAND — Michael Zelezniak of Guilderland, who founded Northeastern Stud Welding in town, died after a short illness on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, at home with family members at his side. He was 89.

He was born in Oppenheim, in Fulton County, New York on May 14, 1932.

Genevieve A. Staub

COLONIE — Genevieve A. Staub, a religious woman who loved helping Altamont children cross the street safely on their way to school, died peacefully in her Colonie home on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021.

After battling several illnesses, she was surrounded by her children at her death. She was 91.

WESTERLO — Stanley “Stan” Homeyer, a mechanic who liked helping others repair their vehicles, died suddenly at his home on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021. He was 67.
“Stanley was a kind man who was always there to help anyone,” his family wrote in a tribute.

John Franklin Green

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — John Franklin Green, who treasured his Guilderland youth and wrote several books capturing it, died on Thursday, July 29, 2021, in Arizona where he had lived since the 1980s. He was 68.

Edwin David Hamilton, who worked in construction and loved nature, died peacefully at home on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021, after a long and tenacious battle with cancer. He died the day after he turned 59.

He was born in Albany on Aug. 7, 1962, to Arthur and Betty Weyant Hamilton, the youngest of their eight children.   

Nancy Sager Halpert, a librarian who cared deeply about her family and many friends, died peacefully and in the comfort of her family on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021. She was 97.

Richard Louis Tastor

ALTAMONT — Richard Louis Tastor, a devoted family man who helped UAlbany students realize their dreams, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021 at St. Peter’s Hospice. He was 73.

Born on Dec. 7, 1947, in Utica, New York, he was the son of Robert Tastor and June Kimball Tastor.

Robert L. LeBuis

Robert L. LeBuis, an Army veteran who managed radar programs at General Electric, was active in many community organizations.

He lived in Barneveld in Oneida County in central New York and died on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare. He was 83.

Lawrence H. Daly

GUILDERLAND — “Lawrence H. Daly, Ph.D., left us alone at home in the twilight of his 90th year on Wednesday, July 21, 2021,” his family wrote in a tribute.

Helen Banas Reals, of Saratoga Springs — one of the first female police officers in Los Angeles, and the first female reader at St. Lucy’s Parish in Altamont — died on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020. She was 92.
