Elizabeth Ann ‘Betty’ Mahoney

ALTAMONT — Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Mahoney, the long-time cook at Altamont Elementary School, died on Monday, June 21, 2021, after a brief illness. She was 88.

VOORHEESVILLE — With family by his side, Stephen D. Kinisky died on Saturday, June 19, 2021, after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. He was 56.

WESTERLO — James K. Morrison died on his 51st wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 12, 2021, while his beloved wife was holding his hand. He was 83.

A well-known clinical psychologist in the Capital District, he was also well-respected internationally.

ALBANY — Joseph Edward Purcell of Albany, a long-time educational leader in the Guilderland schools, died peacefully on Monday, June 21, 2021, after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. He was 84.
“It took two of the world’s worst diseases to get the better of Joe,” his family wrote in a tribute.

BERNE — Victor William Porlier Jr. was a man of ferocious intellect and stellar achievement. He died unexpectedly with his wife, Lois Porlier, at their East Berne home on Friday, June 4, 2021. He was 83. 

ALTAMONT — James Alexander Sands died suddenly and accidentally at home on Sunday, June 13, 2021.

BERNE — Lois Kleinhans Porlier was known for her bright mind and tender care of her garden. She died suddenly with her husband, Victor Porlier, at their East Berne home on Friday, June 4, 2021. She was 72.

SCHROON LAKE, N.Y. -— James “Jim” H. Butler, a bank auditor who helped write the breed standards for the Alaskan Klee Kai, died at Glens Falls Hospital on Saturday, June 12, 2021, due to pneumonia after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 82 years old.

ALTAMONT — Marion Roberts, whom her family described as “a good ol’ gal,” died on Saturday, June 12, 2021. She was 93.

“Marion enjoyed family and friends, travel and crosswords, good books, and an extra dry martini,” her family wrote in a tribute.

WESTERLO — “The kindest, hardest-working, most patient man in the world decided it was time to leave this life and begin the ultimate retirement on June 11th, 2021,” wrote the family of Andrew Christopher Marrone Sr. He was 78.

ROOT, N.Y. —  Robert J. Crounse — a Vietnam veteran, a truck driver, and a father — died at his residence on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021. He was 74.

He was born on March 13, 1947, in Schenectady to Chester Crounse and Thelma (née Constable) Crounse. A long-time Altamont resident, he graduated from Guilderland High School in 1965.

Leo O. Bartell Sr.

EAST BERNE — Leo O. Bartell Sr. of East Berne, who was recognized both for fostering children and serving the Hilltowns, died peacefully in his East Berne home on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. He was 78.

VOORHEESVILLE — Matthew Ramsey was a man with a “wicked sense of humor,” but he was also someone who had deep compassion for others, and will be remembered as “caring,” “loving,” and “generous,” and as an artist whose imagination was “boundless.”

WESTERLO — Martin Gerard Duffy “shook hands with JFK and conducted himself with that man’s vision of public service and patriotism,” his family wrote in a tribute. He “entered Eternal Life” on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at his Westerlo home. He was 70.

ALTAMONT — Stanley L. Dean Jr. of Altamont, a dedicated family man, died at home on Thursday, June 3, 2021. He was 87.

Born in Delhi, New York on Sept. 18, 1933, he was the son of Dr. Stanley and Gertrude (née Wagner) Dean.
