GUILDERLAND — Betty H. Moolick of Guilderland, a teacher who was passionate about her home and family, died on Thursday, July 26, 2018. She was 84.

She was born March 11, 1934 in Amsterdam to the late Isaac and Genevieve Hughes.

WESTERLO – Barbara A. Freedell — a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was also a waitress and an ace bowler — died on Sunday, July 22, 2018, surrounded by her beloved family. She was 82.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1935, in Manhattan to the late Preston A. and Maria J. Wouk Smith.

BERNE – Alice Jean Collins took care of people — of the patients she nursed, the family she cared for, and the children she taught.

“She was very independent,” said her son, Michael Collins. She was also very religious. “She loved the Lord and put her faith in Jesus,” her son said.

SCOTIA — James Scott Lewis — an outdoorsman who served in both Gulf Wars and who became a compassionate medical provider — died on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at Albany Medical Center Hospital surrounded by his loving family, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was 51.

DELMAR — “A stubbornly positive woman,” Elizabeth Louise (née Lomery) Burns was someone who would find the good even in bad situations, her granddaughter said. “She always looked for the silver lining.”

WRIGHT — Helen L. Schell was a strong woman who loved her family and faith. She died on Thursday, July 12, 2018. She was 87.

“Mom was fantastic,” said her son, Wayne Schell. “She worked and she took care of sister and myself and my brother Robbie … .”

WESTERLO — Robert F. Matott had the heart of Santa Claus.

“He was the life of the party,” said his wife, Lisa Matott. “And he was always giving.”

BERNE — Greg A. Stempel, a hard-working arborist, died unexpectedly on Monday, June 25, 2018, at home with his loving wife, Tammy, by his side. Greg “Stewie” Allen was 56 years old.

Marissa N. Parker, 18, died unexpectedly in her home on Sunday, July 1, 2018, where she lived with her mother, Heather Schwenk; her stepfather, Steven Schwenk; her sister McKenzie Schwenk; and her brother, Gavin Schwenk. Her sister Courtney Worrock resides in North Carolina.

GUILDERLAND — Barbara H. Gearhardt, a school secretary who loved music and minerals, died on Sunday, July 1, 2018. She was 85.
