Barbara A. Freedell

WESTERLO – Barbara A. Freedell — a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was also a waitress and an ace bowler — died on Sunday, July 22, 2018, surrounded by her beloved family. She was 82.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1935, in Manhattan to the late Preston A. and Maria J. Wouk Smith.

Mrs. Freedell was a waitress at Shepard’s Farm Resort in South Westerlo for 33 years.

She was a basketball player for the Mentone Girls Basketball team, and an avid bowler, having been a member of various bowling leagues both at the national and state level and was a member of the 600 Club.

She also enjoyed bingo, going to casinos, and traveling.

In a tribute to Mrs. Freedell, her family expressed their thanks to Community Hospice in Albany, “for all their care and compassion that they gave to Mom and the family.”

Barbara A. Freedell is survived by her daughters, Jean Marie Hedges; Joyce Freedell Jones and her husband, Denny; and Janice Mahoney and her husband, Michael; her grandchildren, Tyler, Juliann, Lindsay, Jerimy, Stephanie, and Brandon; her four great-grandchildren; her siblings, Marilyn Koerner and James Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held on July 25 at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a burial in Westerlo Central Cemetery.  Mourners may leave condolences online at ajcunninghamfh.com.
