ALTAMONT —  Marcia H. Perlee raised six children in a home they said was always a center of warmth, good cheer, and love. She died on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany surrounded by her loving family. She was 89.

Dr. Suz Brooks spent her life working with and caring for children and animals, and she often said how blessed she was by that passion. She died on Monday, April 10, 2017, at Hancock Hall in Danbury, Connecticut. She was 68.

ALTAMONT — An adventurous girl, Teresa Catherine Panepinto grew up to be a woman who was not afraid to take risks to help others.

“She always had this sense of caring, of devotion, being willing to advocate and fight for whoever was ignored,” said her father, Bill Panepinto.

GUILDERLAND — Long-time Democratic Committee Chairman David Bosworth changed the shape of politics in Guilderland, turning Democratic a town that had been controlled by the Republican Party and its forerunner for 150 years.

ALTAMONT — Margaret J. Rau could darn the holes in socks as well as she mended the hurt in hearts. As a farmwife, she was frugal and hardworking, a woman of deep faith and compassion.

She died on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. She was 93.

GUILDERLAND — Amelia M. Marlow (née Drezelo) was known for the colorful flower gardens in her front yard, said her son, Stephen Marlow.

Dr. Daniel H. Flanders, an accomplished dentist who loved to fly and to fish, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 7, 2017.  He was 72.

KNOX — Raymond F. Shafer Sr. — a farmer, produce seller, and storyteller — died on Sunday, April 9, 2017. He was 101.

ALTAMONT — Margaret J. Rau, a devoted wife and mother, died on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn. She was 93.

She was born on April 29, 1923 in Schenectady, the daughter of Blanche L. Jeffords and Charles Vedder.

DELMAR — Harry M. Rarick, known to his family and friends as “Bud,” died unexpectedly at Albany Medical Center with his sister by his side on Friday, March 31, 2017. He was 83.

“He was a very devoted husband and father,” said his sister, Diane Saddlemire. “And he was a very hard worker.”

ALTAMONT — Raymond J. Martin, a devoted family man who loved history and designed armories, died peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2017. He was 89.

He was born in Albany, on Dec. 14, 1927 and grew up on Orange Street in the city. His mother worked as a telephone operator and his father was a railroad worker.

BERNE — Richard Earle Spensley was a musician, reader, survivor, and a caring father and grandfather. He died on Monday, March 27, 2017, in Florida, where he lived. He was 76.

“He was a really great man,” said his daughter, DiDi Spears. “With a good sense of humor and a good soul.”
