KNOX — When it came to parenting, Elizabeth Shedina stood by her convictions, but the flowers in her vase changed with the seasons.

Elizabeth J. (née Kolb) Shedina died at her home on Thursday, July 24, 2014. She was 91.

ALTAMONT — Cecile A. Meyers, a woman who always kept busy, died on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in Lecanto, Florida. She was 76.

GUILDERLAND — Virginia Flansburg, a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at the Manor at Guilderland Center. She was 75.

She was born and raised in Albany, New York, the daughter of the late Henry and Kathleen Richardson.

VOORHEESVILLE — Hardworking and strong, Marie R. Russell was also creative. She worked for a quarter of a century as a laboratory technician in bacteriology for the state’s Department of Health and was also highly skilled at a wide variety of crafts.

She died on Saturday, July 19, 2014. She was 91.

CLINTON — Robert Keith Harvey, a dairy farmer who oversaw the transportation of local schoolchildren at Berne-Knox, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2014.

Mr. Harvey of Clinton, North Carolina, died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in North Carolina. He was 83.

KNOX — Like her favorite president, Harry Truman, Donna Lynn Mosley Simpson came from a hard-working background and overcame tough odds.

Doris Dee (née Lansing) Kirk, an identical twin and a lover and creator of art, died peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Alpine Nursing Home in Little Falls, New York. She was 87.

GUILDERLAND — Craig Joseph Odeen dutifully worked for New York State for 40 years but his passion was for the people he loved.

“He was warm and gregarious and committed to his friends and family,” said his wife of 40 years, Linda Walsh Odeen, noting that over 250 people attended his wake.

EAST BERNE — Margaret E. Gilbert was a Gold Star Mother — her only son had died in Vietnam — who dressed all in white with dignity, gracing many local Memorial Day ceremonies over the years.

NEW SCOTLAND — James E. “Bubbie” Salisbury, an Army veteran and master mechanic who loved restoring old cars, died in his sleep on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at his home. He was 71.
Born in Albany on April 8, 1943, he is the son of the late James and Minnie Salisbury.

ALTAMONT — Dorothy D. Barker, a strong-willed woman who loved her family, died on Monday, July 14, 2014. She was 98.

Mrs. Barker was born on Nov. 15, 1915, in Amsterdam, to the late Fred and Bessie (née Cline) Dopp.

GUILDERLAND — David E. Sherry, a man whose compassion knew no bounds, died on Friday, July 11, 2014, after injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident. He was 57.

Mr. Sherry was born in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Edmond A. Sherry and Carol Ganley.

GUILDERLAND — Julie White, a nurse who loved cats, died on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. She was 41.

She was born on Jan. 24, 1973, in Gouverneur, the daughter of Richard White and Joyce Ashlaw.

She graduated from Edwards-Knox Central School in 1991 and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1993.

GUILDERLAND — Edward C. Zyniecki Jr., who was born on Sept. 30, 1925, died on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014.  Leota (Lee) Zyniecki, who was born on April 12, 1928, died on Feb. 4, 2014, eleven days after her husband. They had been married for 65 years.

GUILDERLAND — Jane H. Springer, a former Guilderland Town Clerk and representative in the Albany County Legislature, died peacefully on March 15, 2014, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was 83.

Mrs. Springer was born in Ithaca, the daughter of Charles and Marion Newman.
