Despite the rush, smiles greet Altamont P.O. customers

To the Editor:

Having just returned from the Altamont Post Office with my final packages and cards in hopes that they make it by Christmas, I came away with such a grateful feeling about the service our community post office provides, I just had to write.

Since early December, I have seen long lines winding through the office, packages bursting into the counter areas from the back, huge and heavy boxes being lifted with ease to customers — and  heard discussions through smiling faces about how many hours till their first day off in a week, seen new faces brought on board to handle the rush, watched postpeople still delivering mail throughout the village way after dark, and overheard that, with so many people now using Amazon shipping, they were lucky to even have Christmas off!

And with all that turmoil, every single time I went into the Post Office, there was a big smile, a helping hand, and a “Happy Holidays” greeting from each and every one of those gracious people at the counter.

So thank you, Altamont Post Office! We really do appreciate all you do, especially this time of year.
