CLIFTON PARK — Janis J. “Jan” Berschwinger studied music and played in a jazz band and traveled widely for her career but her greatest love was for her family and her favorite place was home.

She lived in Clifton Park and “peacefully entered into eternal life on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush,” her family wrote in a tribute. She was 75.

Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Hazel Hawes Crounse and was a graduate of Guilderland High School and attended the State University of New York College at Fredonia where she played violin and went on to play the electric bass in a jazz band.

“While music remained a great love throughout her life, family was most important to Jan, most especially her three children,” her family wrote.

“Jan had a successful career as a telecommunications sales representative and account manager,” her family wrote, “befitting her gift of conversation and allowing her to travel and meet people throughout the country.

“Jan always looked forward to coming back to her home to enjoy parties and clambakes in the backyard, visiting with family, neighbors, and friends, as well as taking on home-improvement projects, and ‘camping’ in Lake Luzerne with her husband, Leonard J. ‘Bud’ Berschwinger who died before her in 2020.

“She was the beloved mother of Melody (Paul Jr.) Goetz, George A. Jones III, and the late Kimberly S. Jones; cherished grandmother of Allison M. Goetz and Paul L. Goetz III; and dear sister of Beverly (late Steven) Harrington and brother John (Kim) Crounse.

“She is also survived by her two loving nieces; a nephew; the Berschwinger family; and her fur babies Boots, Gabriel and Michael.”

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065 where at 6 p.m. that evening her funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Tim Flynn of the Amity Reformed Church in Vischer Ferry.

“The family wishes to extend their most sincere gratitude to the entire team at Evergreen Commons for their loving, compassionate care and the companionship they provided to Jan,” the tribute said.
