Volunteer voices: Helderberg Ambulance gets 27 calls in November, elects officers in December

The month of November brought snow and cold weather, but that did not stop the members of Helderberg Ambulance from responding to calls. In November, there were 27 calls; 16 of these calls resulted in a transport to the hospital.

Fourteen calls were medical and two were trauma. There were 11 non-transports.  Twenty-two calls were in the town of Berne and five were in the town of Knox.

At the December meeting the following people were elected to office: President Alan Zuk, Vice President Randy Bashwinger, Secretary Millie Zuk, Treasurer Cynthia Johnson, Captain Dave Tiffany, Lieutenant Krista Safford, Lieutenant Tom McQuade, and Board of Director Member Al Raymond.

The squad also agreed to send luncheon platters to the highway departments in the Berne and Knox.  George Gebe and Jerry O’Malley will deliver these platters to each of the highway departments and thank the workers for maintaining the roads.

On Jan. 26, there will be a blood drive at the Cole Hill Station from 8 a.m. to 1 p.. Call 800-733-2767 to make an appointment.

The squad welcomed two new members, Stephanie Carpenter and Chrissy Murray.

To help make it easier for the squad members to respond to an emergency, we ask that your house number be displayed so that we can see it from the road. Also, we ask that you shovel your stairs and walkway.

Stay safe and we wish you all a very happy holiday season.
