Luke McDermott was celebrated with a Westerlo Hometown Heroes banner this summer. McDermott is a native of Westerlo and a member of the United States Sled Hockey team. After losing both his legs below the knee while serving in the United States Marine Corps, McDermott became involved in sled hockey, eventually joining the United States national team. He was named Player of the Game after scoring two goals against South Korea in London, Ontario, on Dec. 4. The United States won, 9 to 0, in its second game of the 2018 Para Hockey Cup.
