There’s no need for Stewart’s to expand into a residential neighborhood

To the Editor:

I am strongly opposed to the proposed expansion of Stewart’s in Altamont. It seems a bit brazen and insensitive for Stewart’s to once again be attempting to raze a perfectly sound historic residence just to extend its profit margins.

Although I am currently a resident of Knox, my mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother all lived in Altamont and I am still closely connected to the village. I trust it would sadden them to witness this proposed expansion.

I personally have never had difficulty finding a parking spot. The store is functional as is. There simply is no substantial need to expand into a residential neighborhood.

If Stewart’s is truly a “good neighbor,” it will respect our opposition to the expansion. I strongly urge the village board to say “no” to the Stewart’s plans.
