Light up the night and maybe win a prize

To the Editor:

As was done for many years in the recent past, as part of the “Light Up the Village” activities, Altamont Community Tradition is reinstituting the community-wide challenge for the best exterior holiday decorations in both residential and commercial categories.

The challenge will be held through the month of December.

Judging will be by a panel of resident village “elves,” young and old, to take place on or about Dec. 21.

Gift certificates, graciously donated by Phillips Hardware, will be awarded for first, second, and third in the residential category and one prize will be awarded in the commercial category.

All village families and businesses are encouraged to participate; there are no style categories or preconceived notions by the committee. The judges will be looking only for the most beautiful, original, unique, cute, fun, clever, weird, bright ….

So once again dig out those dusty boxes from your attics and garages and create a memorable holiday scene at your house or shop; we’ll be watching.
