PRIVATE ELWOOD SAND IN BRITISH HOSPITAL
Private Elwood Sand, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Sand of Berne, was wounded in September at the battle of Cambrai and was heard from October 12 at a British base hospital, where he is rapidly recovering. He was a member of “B” company, 108th infantry.
BERNE.
— School was closed in this village on Tuesday on account of the influenza.
— There will be a Thanksgiving service in the Reformed church of this village on Thursday Nov. 28, at 10 a.m. It is anticipated that the congregations of both churches will attend this service. All come.
Skunk Season from Nov. 10 to Feb. 10
The game law provides that skunks may be taken either in the daytime or at night in any manner, but they shall not be taken from holes or dens by digging, smoking or the use of chemicals, and they may be possessed from Nov. 10 to Feb. 10, inclusive. Skunks which are injuring property or have become a nuisance may be taken any time in any manner; but the skunk or any part thereof so taken shall not be possessed, bought, sold or trafficked in.
VOORHEESVILLE.
Vosburgh & Stalker did some threshing with steam power for C.C. LaGrange at Slingerlands last week. In one day of eight hours they threshed 342 bushels of rye. Mr. LaGrange wonders if the gasoline and kerosene threshers can equal this?
NEW SALEM — SOUTH END.
An auction sale took place at the residence of Horace W. Hotaling on Tuesday of this week and was quite largely attended. Mr. Hotaling has given up farming and will reside in Albany.
VILLAGE NOTES.
Frederick Lape has resumed his work as machinist and repair man at the Altamont garage, after an absence of several weeks caused by a severe illness of pneumonia.
GUILDERLAND CENTER.
The Albany auto bus made its last trip on Friday of last week. The people of this community have greatly appreciated the convenience of this means of reaching Albany, and we feel almost lost without it
