Stephen H. Burt

Stephen H. Burt

Stephen H. Burt, who graduated from Guilderland High School in 1962, was a proud Vietnam War veteran who was generous with his family.

A resident of Poughkeepsie, he died on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 78.

Son of the late Winston and Helen Miller Burt, he was born Dec. 15, 1943 in Albany.

“Stephen proudly served in the United States Army in Vietnam,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He went on to work for the State of New York, Department of Transportation in Poughkeepsie. He was very committed to his job and retired after 30 years.

“He will be remembered as a devoted brother, uncle, and great-uncle. You could count on him being present to support and celebrate all of life’s accomplishments, join in at a meal or hop on the dance floor.

“Stephen was generous with his family, both with his time and financially. He loved to pass along his love of history to the younger generation. He enjoyed maintaining family traditions, especially reading ‘’Twas The Night Before Christmas.’

“Stephen was an avid family genealogist. He was a very curious person and was interested in and knowledgeable in many areas.

“In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling. He loved to attend the Olympics and delighted his nieces and nephews with pins from the games.

“He enjoyed investing and relished in the process of where to make his investment. Stephen also loved nature and found joy in the simple pleasures of watching the deer and birds from his sun room.”
