This year, the Community Tree will not be lonely

To the Editor:
I’m writing with an open invitation to the families and businesses of Altamont. Altamont Community Tradition is pleased to announce that we will once again be hosting a Festival of Lights in the village.

We will share more details as we get closer to the event, but I wanted to let you know that we will again be hosting our Community Tree in Orsini Park. Businesses and neighbors are invited to decorate the tree with outdoor-safe ornaments.

Blank ornaments will be available right after Thanksgiving, available free to both families and businesses (we ask please only one per family or business). They will be available for pick-up starting the day after Thanksgiving at five locations: The Altamont Free Library, Bella Fleur/Remedies, Hungerford Market, Renue Spa, and at Orsini Park next to the tree.

Please decorate one and place it on the tree from Dec. 1 to the day of celebration, Dec. 19. You may certainly donate an ornament of your own choosing for the tree instead.

This year, the Community Tree will not be lonely. The tree-decorating challenge held for many years in the Masonic Hall will be within the park, near the Community Tree.

There is no theme, but perhaps an opportunity to keep the kids busy or to place heartfelt thoughts of joy or memories for the whole village to enjoy.

For safety, please place the ornaments only on the lower branches, no higher than five to six feet from the ground. ACT will periodically spread them out higher so all may see.

On Dec.19, the Community Tree will be lit along with the village trees.

If you have any questions, please contact me at or text/call 518-573-9841.
