Busy Election Day brought record funds from library’s annual bake sale
To the Editor:
Election Day was certainly busy. One of the busiest events of the day was the annual Altamont Free Library bake sale at the Altamont Village Hall.
The tables abounded with a multitude of generously donated baked goods from many Altamont area bakers. By 6 p.m., all that was left were crumbs and the record-breaking funds raised for the library that will be used for the programs and the services we provide. We are humbled and grateful for everyone’s generosity.
This event could not happen each year without the organization and dedication of Mary Heidienger; the Altamont Library friends she gathers to help; our director, Joe Burke; and library staff. It takes a real team to achieve such great results. We thank them all.
Looking ahead through the rest of the year, we would like to point out some events happening at the library. We have just launched our annual Holiday Lights campaign. For $3, you can honor or remember someone special on Dec. 4 at 4:30 p.m. as we light up the village gazebo in Orsini Park.
There is also time to purchase tickets for the beautiful Centennial Quilt made by our Train Station Quilters. We hope you will stop in during the Altamont community Tradition’s Victorian Holiday and Winter Market on Dec. 11 as we will host some vendors and have the drawing for the quilt. Santa will be arriving at the train station gate behind the library at 5 p.m.
And finally, it is not too late to make an end-of-year donation to our 100 for $100 Centennial Fundraiser. Information on all of our events may be found on our website and weekly column in The Enterprise.
As we approach Thanksgiving, the support of all of our patrons, friends, staff, municipalities, and board members are at the top of our gratitude list. We would not be who we are without you.
