There is no losing with full-hearted civic engagement

To the Editor:

Congratulations to Jeff Perlee on his win in the 31st Albany County Legislative District. And congratulations to my friends and neighbors for the great campaign we undertook!

I’m proud of the campaign we ran and I’m proud to have had the support of each and every one of you. There is no losing with full-hearted civic engagement.

In January, we’ll have a new representative in the Albany County Legislature. Please help Jeff succeed for all of us. Show up at the legislative meetings and hearings once in a while, perhaps in an occasional carpool.

The first time I went to a meeting and introduced myself to Travis [Stevens], he said he never (rarely?) saw anyone from the district there. The issues being discussed are very consequential and it’s interesting to attend the meetings, so go listen.

Make public comments — you don’t have to be a great orator or expert. Share your views and any helpful materials you have with Jeff. Invite him to meetings, tours, etc. It’s part of our job to inform him, just as it’s his job to inform us.

I’m looking forward to working  to advance the interests of our community in the new year.

Fran Porter

Editor’s note: Albany County Legislator Travis Stevens, a Knox Republican, did not seek re-election to represent District 31. Democrat Fran Porter lost to Republican Jeff Perlee in vying for the seat.
