EAST GREENBUSH — James “Jim” Hall, a United States Navy veteran who worked for the New York State Police, died in the comfort of his East Greenbush home, surrounded by people he loved, on Monday, Oct. 31, 2022. He was 79.

The son of the late James V. and Dorothy (née Cleland) Hall, he was born on Nov. 21, 1942, in Lisbon, New York and raised there.

Mr. Hall lived in the Philippines and Virginia while in the United States Navy. He served in the U.S. Navy for 25 years and retired as a senior chief.

After retiring from the Navy, he lived in the town of Wright in Schoharie County before moving to East Greenbush.

He was a member of the American Legion located in Altamont, and a lifetime member of the Amvets located in Heuvelton, New York.

“Jim enjoyed building hot rods and watching car racing,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He was an avid stamp and coin collector. James loved to travel, having been to his beloved Ireland and Scotland.”

James Hall is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Janet Hall, whom he married on May 22, 1965, in Lindenhurst, New York.

He was the loving father of Michael Hall, Colin (Sharon) Hall, Dale (Bryan) Panting, William (Christie) Hall; the cherished grandfather of Karen Clary, Connor Allen, Ryan Snyder, Fiona Allen, and Aiden Panting; and the great-grandfather of Geneva Clary, Elise Clary, Abigail Clary, and Jameson Clary. He is also survived by one sister, Carol Hall.

His parents, James V. and Dorothy (née Cleland) Hall, died before him, as did Michael C. Hall, Cathryn Wilkerson, and John Hall.

Cremation took place through the care of Simple Choices Inc. The Hall family has chosen to honor his memory in a private way.
