Fond memories of the BKW Class of 1959

To the Editor:

I want to respond to the letter you received from Joe Golden regarding Inga Boudreau — a continuation of “Sweet memories from BKW in the 1950s” on Oct. 15, 2020.

I was privileged to graduate in the class of 1959 at Berne-Knox-Westerlo and am honored to call Inga and Joe Golden my classmates. If I recall correctly, there were 42 in our class and I had an average grade in the middle — 21st.

To this day, I still write in my diary (have been doing it for 66 years now) and I appreciate seeing the correct spelling of any word, not that spellcheck doesn’t help me out at times.

I hand wrote my diaries for the first 50 years and now I use the app “A Free Online Diary” — as a result, I now write a true “how I feel diary” in addition to the routine of each day, as the space is endless.

Those of you who know me would not be surprised to know that my future husband’s name was on the first page of my first diary that I started at the age of 13. And I fell in love with him before that time.

His name: Bob Wright. He graduated with the class of 1955 at BKW. We celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary three months before Bob died from cancer on Christmas Day 2008. Fond memories.

I remember Inga and her sister, Waltraut, as two of the smart students who joined us in, I believe, ninth grade from Westerlo Grade School. The top students in our class were fortunate enough to have been taught in a smaller classroom setting; therefore, I felt stupid next to them when they joined us in Berne.

Inga, I would love to hear from you at your convenience. You can reach me by email at . Fond memories — and I look forward to reading your book.

And I might add Inga: “You look marvelous” — and I mean it.
