Christmas service at Bates Church canceled

To the Editor:

The Bates Church is a tiny church in the township of Rensselaerville.

It has maintained its historical character (no electricity, oil lamps, wood-burning stoves, etc.) and held a service once a year on the first Saturday in December.

It always had a huge crowd that ended with a visit from Santa.

This year’s service, scheduled for Dec. 5, is canceled because of COVID-19.

We are looking forward to our 2021 service.
