VOORHEESVILLE.

Last Sunday state troopers apprehended several Albany parties who were stealing apples from the orchard of Chas. Bender on the state road between New Scotland and Voorheesville. Warrants for their arrest were issued by justice George Taylor of this place, and several of the offenders appeared in court on Thursday at the Grove hotel. They were tried and convicted and were fined ten dollars each. No names were given for publication on account of the prominence of the men.

STATEMENT FROM THE BOARD OF EDUCATION

On the night of Oct. 30th the Altamont High school building was forcibly entered and certain depredations committed, to the indignation and disgust of our taxpayers.

On investigating the matter, the names of the young men who were implicated were discovered. It seems impossible that these young men could be so completely foolish as to violate the dignity of an institution of this order as they did.

Many of our taxpayers complain of the seeming leniency of the Board toward the perpetrators of the disgraceful affair.

Now we, the Board of Trustees, are anxious to have the co-operation of every taxpayer and every Alumnus, in our efforts to make the Altamont High school what it once was, the second in its class in the state.

We know that what took place at the school on Hallowe’en was not done by malicious boys. The building was entered with no intent to steal nor to do any material damage. In fact, the material damage was insignificant.

For this reason we hesitate to bring public disgrace upon them. We consider the punishment for forcibly entering would be out of proportion to the intent. We want no apology from the boys but we wish them to know that the affair is most serious. The matter will be taken up and pushed to the limit upon notice of any similar doings in the future.

LANDSLIDE PUTS HARDING AND COOLIDGE IN

By majorities unprecedented in American politics, Warren G. Harding was elected President and Calvin Coolidge Vice President on Tuesday. Though the addition of women to the electorate might have been expected to make the margins of successful candidates somewhat larger than in past years, it could hardly account for any such unheard-of majorities as were rolled up from coast to coast.

The popular plurality of the Republican candidates in the nation is estimated at 8,000,000, the greatest ever given in election history.

THOMPSON’S LAKE.

Clarence Quay, patrolman of the state road, has made some queer finds this summer, one of them being a set of false upper teeth.

WEST MEADOWDALE.

Mrs. Amasa Wright has a dahlia plant that has 142 blossoms and buds on it.

VILLAGE NOTES.

J.F. Vees, proprietor of the popular Hotel Altamont, reports that all the tables are engaged for dinner on Thanksgiving day.
