Guilderland Police: Bank robbery foiled
GUILDERLAND — On Friday afternoon, Guilderland Police say, they foiled a bank robbery and charged Kajaro M. Evans, 19, with first-degree attempted robbery and second-degree falsely reporting an incident.
According to a release from the police, events unfolded this way:
At about 1:33 p.m., the department got a call saying a robbery was in progress at the Bank of America at 1450 Western Ave.
“The caller reported that a suspect handed a teller a note demanding money or he would blow the bank up,” the release said. “The bank employees as well as customers that were inside were able to exit the bank while the suspect remained inside.”
Guilderland Police joined by University Police and State Police formed a perimeter. A short time later, Evans walked out of the bank and was taken into custody without incident.
He was arraigned in the Guilderland Town Court and remanded to Albany County’s jail with bail.
Members of the State Police Bomb Disposal Unit and the Albany Police Department Emergency Services Team were called to assist with securing the bank. Western Avenue was closed to traffic between Fuller Road and McKown Road for about two-and-a-half hours.
