This is a beautiful area. Keep it that way.

To the Editor:

Every day, Jeannette (my wife of over 60 years) walks a mile, sometimes two, for exercise, picking up litter as she goes. Every day is a garbage-bag full. Some thank her. Some take the bag and dispose of it.  One refused: “Why should I take the garbage.”

Today was Saturday, dump day. A bag full fell out at the corner of routes 157 and 443. Surely not on purpose, hopefully unnoticed, not ignored. In cleaning up, including diapers, we also found an addressed envelope, which I shall return.

Also deposit cans. Why can’t people save the cans and turn them back to the town or the Boy Scouts?  Come on, people, get with it!

While you’re at it, separate cardboard and paper and plastics and aluminum and cans. What world will you inhabit in the future?

We also found, separately, a big chunk of cardboard with an address. A mistake no doubt but can’t you be careful while loading the truck?

She picks up between The Old Mill and Dollar General and Cole Hill Road to the county highway building. It is really discouraging what (bad words deleted) are thoughtlessly populating our community.  This is a beautiful area. Keep it that way.

Another note: The helpers at the recycling center are very helpful and courteous. Give them a cookie occasionally.
