Ken and Karl will make sure Knox continues in the right direction

Brigitte McAuliffe displayed this two-sided sign during the 2019 Knox Democratic primary.

To the Editor:

First, we would like to thank Supervisor Vasilios Lefkaditis for his dedication and commitment to the town of Knox. He has worked diligently for the taxpayers of this town and has been a voice for everyone.

He has kept tax increases at zero, increased services, and made numerous upgrades, all while also increasing the cash balances of the town. His tireless efforts to help improve the town park has truly paid off: a new playground, LED [light-emitting diode] ballpark lights, paved pathways and now a soon to be updated bathroom and kitchen area. We are excited to see what the future holds for our park. Thank you, again!

Second, we would like to again show our support for Ken Saddlemire and Karl Pritchard for town board. Both gentlemen are long established Knox residents who have dedicated their time, expertise, and manpower to the betterment of this town. They are both respectful and do their due diligence and research on the issues at hand.

They have helped move the town forward with the creation of the multi-use recreational district and are steadfast in their commitment to improving the town park even more. Ken has also done great work with the Agricultural Advisory Committee, a topic that is vital to our rural town.

One thing we found quite ironic about Ms. Brigitte McAuliffe’s interview with The Enterprise last week was her statement of “…dissension is not negativity”[“Knox Election: Two vie for supervisor while concerned citizen takes on 2 town board incumbents,” Oct. 20, 2021].

While we agree with that statement in general, it is a fact that during the last election for supervisor, in 2019, Ms. McAuliffe was the one standing near the town hall with a profanity-laced sign against Supervisor Lefkaditis. That seems to be some outright negativity and hostility and not living up to her statement. That is definitely not what the town board needs.

While we also cannot show our support for either supervisor candidate, and wish there were a better one, we know that with Ken and Karl on the board, they can continue to make sure Knox continues in the right direction.

Local elections matter as much as national ones, so please make sure you vote!

Editor’s note: Brigitte McAuliffe displayed two two-sided signs as she stood roadside near the polling place during the Knox Democratic primary election in 2019. Supervisor Vasilios Lefkaditis, a registered Democrat who, like the rest of his slate, had already secured the Republican line, was also primarying with his slate to get the Democratic line as well — an effort that failed.

Neither of McAuliffe’s signs contained profanity; rather, one hinted at the mildly profane term “jackass” through imagery. One side of that sign read, “Supervisor Lefkaditis might be a [picture of a donkey],” and other side read, “But he is no [picture of the Democratic donkey symbol]. Honk if you are.”

The other sign, which, like the first, criticizes Lefkaditis (as well as his campaign partners) did not use or imply profane language.
