A salute to the fun and celebratory nature of the season

To the Editor:

Halloween marks a transition from the summer harvest to that long slide of white invading our world from time to time. It’s an occasion for haunted houses, ghosts, witches, and skeletons.

There are also the costumes — lots of mini superheroes, ninjas, pirates, and celebrities roaming the streets for sticky treats. Let’s not forget a chance for the adults to get decked out in their finest rendition of the latest zombie menace. It’s party time for young and old alike.

The Berne Historical Society gives a salute to the fun and celebratory nature of the season by offering “Spooky Museum Tours” on Sunday, Oct. 30, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Berne Museum. Surprises  abound behind each door of history. Our school room will have a special theme brought to you by the folks at the Berne Library.

Dressing up in your favorite Halloween outfit is totally encouraged. It’s entirely possible treats may make an appearance. If you are hesitant because of the spookiness, you just have to say to yourself: “How spooky could it be from 1:30 to 3:30 in the afternoon?”
