Join us for ‘Storms and Survival in the Hilltowns’

To the Editor:

Surviving blizzards, ice storms, floods, and the many facets of stormy weather in the Hilltowns. Think back to the Blizzard of ’58. The February storm raged hour after hour, dumping snow at an unprecedented rate.

So much snow that helicopters were called in to drop feed for cows, other livestock — and humans as well. There are pictures of drifts reaching the tops of telephone poles and stories of being snowed in for six weeks or more.

On Oct. 28, join the Berne Historical Society at the Berne Senior and Community Center at 7 p.m. for a presentation of “Storms and Survival in the Hilltowns.” Please join us and be sure to leave room for refreshments.

And if you'd like to visit the Berne Museum, it will be open Sunday, Oct. 27, from 2 to 4 p..m.
