ALBANY COUNTY — On Friday morning, Brian E. Beloncik was sentenced to six years in state prison, to be followed by five years of post- release supervision for robbing a Guilderland house in April.

He appeared before Judge Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court on Oct. 19.

Beloncik, 57, of 2577 Fourth Ave. in Rotterdam, had pleaded guilty before McDonough in September to second-degree burglary, a violent felony.

He had been charged in April by Guilderland Police with first-degree burglary and with first-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

According to a report from Guilderland Police and to a release from the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, events unfolded this way:

On April 21, at about 12:45 a.m., Belonick unlawfully entered a home at 1904 Western Ave. in Guilderland when no one was home. When the homeowner returned, Beloncik hid in the bathroom. After waiting for an hour, he left the bathroom while wearing a mask.

He then brandished a knife and fled the scene. The homeowner wasn’t injured.

Beloncik was later apprehended with the victim’s property in his pockets, along with multiple knives and a ski mask.

Assistant District Attorney Joseph Brucato of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted this case.
