I will serve with respect, honesty, and accountability

To the Editor:

My name is June Springer and I am running for a seat on the Knox Town Board.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about who I am and why I would like the privilege of representing you on the Knox Town Board.

I have lived in Knox for 40 years, raising a family and volunteered with many organizations in our community, including:

— Berne-Knox-Westerlo Little League manager for 12 years;

— BKW Little League Board of Directors;

— BKW Board of Education member for five years;

— BKW Board of Education president for one year;

— Sunday school teacher at St. John’s for 15 years;

— Pucker Street Fair Committee;

— BKW Ladies’ Varsity and JV Volleyball scorekeeper; and

— Knox Community Center Committee.

I also have a long history of small-business experience; as many of you may remember, our family owned the restaurant, The Heavenly Inn, for 15 years. I also have been the manager for Diversified Automotive at the Selkirk Terminal since 2004.

I am running for Knox Town Board because I believe in our town.

I believe it’s not about party politics.

I believe we must respect our differences and build on our common beliefs.

I believe small-town government must be accountable to the citizens.

I believe when we don’t need to spend tax money, we need to save it with fiscal responsibility.

I currently sit on the Park Improvement Committee and support continued improvements to our town park. For example, a fenced in area for our dogs to run so the whole family can enjoy our public park and new playground and it is something I will pursue if elected.

The committee is also discussing the possibility of a community center, which could be built through grants and fundraising. I believe this could bring together our community — especially during the long winter months — so residents of all ages could enjoy programs and socializing without leaving our town.

I support the proposed mixed-use recreational district. There are already small businesses in the same location, and it is easy to access both for those driving through our town and our residents. To be clear — this does not mean an intrusive, big-box commercial operation. This proposal is for “Mom and Pop” type places to stop and shop or enjoy a meal.

I support continued safety improvements for all town employees, as well as yearly reviews to both address issues and improve performances.

I respectfully ask for your support in this election. With your vote, I will serve with respect, honesty, and accountability.

I am endorsed by the Republican, Conservative, and Independence parties.

June M. Springer
