Craig Champion

KNOX —  Craig Champion, a letter carrier and volunteer fireman, died peacefully in his sleep at St Peter’s Hospice Inn on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, after a battle with cancer. He was 44.

Born in Knox on Oct. 29, 1973, he was the son of Don and Diane (née Primeau) Champion. He was a 1991 graduate of Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School and went on to Hudson Valley Community College and the State University of New York College at Oneonta.

After graduating from college, he worked for Eber Brothers Distributing Company in Altamont before starting his career with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier.

He was a member of the Knox Fire Company for 19 years, serving in multiple roles including assistant captain and membership secretary.

In addition to his parents, Craig Champion is survived by his wife, Jennifer (née Rosen) Champion and their daughter, Reagan Beatrice Champion; his sister, Beth LaValle, and her husband, Peter; his niece, Vivian LaValle; his mother-in-law, Rhea Rosen; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. at Fredendall Funeral Home at 199 Main Street in Altamont with burial to follow immediately after at the Knox Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, Oct. 18,, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mourners may leave a message for the family online at www.fredendallfuneralhome.com.
