KNOX TEAMS CHAMPIONS

OF HELDERBERG LEAGUE

Knox won the championship of the Helderberg Baseball league last Saturday by defeating Clarksville 7 to 1.

Kinnere, in the box for Knox, struck out 17 men, while Winchester, his opponent, was hit at opportune times and also suffered from poor work in the field by his team mates.

Outside of the pitching of Kinnere, the game was devoid of features. The weather was most disagreeable, and contributed its share in slowing up the contest. The crowd, several hundreds strong, was too cold to wax enthusiastic over any part of the battle, which ended in the eighth inning when darkness and rain made further operations impossible. Had the weather been pleasant as on the Saturday previous, the game would have been interesting to watch, even though one-sided. The teams of semi-professionals comprising the Helderberg league have played some fine games during the season.

Guilderland Center
Reformed Church

Mrs. F. C. Moffett conducted a most interesting Missionary meeting at her home on Tuesday evening, October 10. The new Mission Study book, “The Trend of the Races,” was used, and Mrs. Moffett, the leader, gave much instruction as to the progress which the Negro has made during the past sixty years. The committee assisted with readings and Negro melodies, and a very profitable hour was spent.

VILLAGE NOTES

The inconvenience of being without village water was demonstrated on Wednesday and Thursday when the Maple avenue main was shut off to repair several leaks of long standing in the pipe opposite the residence of Charles Beebe. The work was completed on Thursday night and the water turned on again. It required the placing of about twenty feet of new pipe.

CLARKSVILLE

— Vivian Stott, little daughter of Rufus Stott, known as “Girlie,” swallowed a ball bearing, and has been under the doctor’s care. She is now on the road to recovery, which her many friends are glad to hear.

— The road-working outfit from New Scotland has been busy the past week stoning the road from Henry Mathias’s toward Feura Bush. We are thankful to find that one Town Board keeps its promises to voters of its town. May the good work go on.

— Mrs. Hiram Wideman attended the state convention of the Women’s Christian Union at Gloversville. It was one of the best that was ever held, and we wish every lady worker could have attended.

PERSONAL MENTION
