Five very school board qualified candidates displayed class

To the Editor:

Albert Einstein is quoted as saying, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.” There was plenty of creativity, intelligence, and fun on display Wednesday, Oct. 2, when the Guilderland Central School Board held a Meet the Candidates Forum at the high school.

Five candidates participated in a question-and-answer session that lasted about an hour. Guilderland students served as moderator, time keeper, and were responsible for the broadcast of the forum on the Guilderland Schools cable channel.

The Guilderland School Board would like to thank Mr. John McKinney, Mrs. Kimberly Blasiak, Mr. Gregory Buck, Dr. Rebecca Butterfield, and Mrs. Blanca Gonzales-Parker for participating in the candidates’ forum. These five very qualified candidates displayed a wealth of knowledge, experience, and class in their answers to various questions related to serving as a member of the school board.

The school board is selecting a candidate to fill a board seat until the next election. In May 2020, there will be three positions up for election with each seat having a three-year term. A fourth seat with a one-year term will also be filled in next May’s voting.

Again, many thanks to the five candidates who gave their time, energy, and expertise to the candidates’ forum on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The newly-selected school board member will be sworn in at the board of education meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
