Music and more: “Assemblywoman Pat Fahy stopped by to show her support too!” says Madeline LaMountain, right, posing with the assemblywoman on the steps of the gazebo in Altamont’s Orsini Park while musicians stand in the background. To the Editor:

I am beaming with joy at the turnout for Altamont’s Second Annual Fall Festival held on Saturday, Sept. 30. Despite the turn in weather, you came out to support our event and we are so thankful.

Thank you to all who participated in our first Apple Baking Contest and Scarecrow Contest. First-prize winner in our ABC is Lynn Graham with her apple upside-down cake and second-prize winner is Gloria White with her apple pie. In our youth category, Cadence Graham won with her apple cupcakes.

Our Scarecrow Contest winners are Sunflower Sam by the Altamont Fair and Smilin’ Jack by Drs. Fass and Edwards. You haven’t missed your chance to see how creative our villagers are; our scarecrow creations will be up until Nov. 1.

Thank you to our lovely vendors; our musicians; our helpful volunteers from Miss Altamont Fair; Guilderland High School’s National Honor Society; and our Orsini Park coordinators Kelly Best, Patty Blackwood, Kerry Dineen, and Veronica D’Alauro.

We also thank Altamont Country Values for donating mums, the Altamont Department of Public Works for doing the heavy lifting and making our parks camera ready, and Altamont Orchards and Hewitt’s Garden Centers of Guilderland and East Greenbush for donating mini pumpkins.

Thanks go to Apple Baking Contest judges former Mayor James Gaughan, Altamont Orchard’s Jim Abbruzzese, and Miss Altamont Fair Meaghan Brennan; our presenters, Keith Lee and Chef Alex Carusone; and our Assembleywoman Pat Fahy for stopping in to show her support.

An enormous thank-you goes to the Altamont Community for your endless support of this festival and our beautiful village. I look forward to even more participation in next year’s Scarecrow Contest with neighbors working together to create scarecrows that represents their streets.

Special thanks go to our community sponsors: Leanne Royer of CM Fox Real Estate, Paisano’s Pizza Villa, LaMountain Mechanical & Services Inc., One Love Preschool, and Altamont Auto Parts without whom we wouldn’t have been able to get this event off the ground again this year.

I am looking to create a committee for next year’s festival. As much as I have enjoyed planning this event both years, I believe the festival will be best organized by a committee with fresh ideas and helping hands. If you are interested, please let me know by e-mailing .

Thank you to all who came out to celebrate Altamont’s Second Annual Fall Festival. We look forward to seeing you next year!
