A hug of gratitude for Gary Salisbury

To the Editor:

Gary Salisbury — A Knox Legacy.

Yes, that’s right. Just look what he has done for our town [The Altamont Enterprise, Sept. 12, 2019, “Salisbury quits as highway super, cites nasty politics]!

After 16 years working in the highway department, he was elected highway superintendent where he served a further 16 years during which he:

— Has inspected all our roads making sure they were safe and drivable;

— Always made sure our children and drivers are safe after heavy snow and rain with scheduled plowing;

— Converted our feudal records onto online computers;

— Saved tax dollars by shopping around for competitive prices for gravel and stone;

— Was highly respected as demonstrated by the majority of residents at the voting booth;

 — Worked closely with FEMA [Federal Emergency Management Agency] providing funds for storm damaged roads and equipment; and

— Set up an intelligent schedule to replace and repair equipment.

Now that’s a real legacy, which we can all recognize.

So now let’s look at the comment “nasty politics.” Remember Gary transcended politics, noting residents voted overwhelmingly across party lines because of his performance for a job well done.

We all ignored party lines for the betterment of our proud town. Maybe those in Knox Town Hall will take notice.

Note to Gary: Please accept a hug of gratitude from us all and we ask you to revisit your words “never say never” and maybe this will become our birthday present as well.
