To the Editor:

Friends, it is with a heavy heart that I need to let you know that the gates to the Altamont fairgrounds will be closed at 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and weekends until further notice. 

We are working with the Altamont Police to secure the fairgrounds. 

This difficult decision was made due to increased vandalism, irresponsible pet owners, and disregard for human kindness towards each other in a world where it is needed so much. 

During open hours, please keep off the gravel track and away from the pumpkin exhibit, use the paved walkways, and please pick up after your dog. 

A few bad apples can ruin it for everyone, folks. 

Hopefully, we will be able to reopen someday.
