Help keep Canal Street Station alive

To the Editor:

Those of you who knew Joe Merli, know how passionate he was about preserving history. He was also passionate about keeping Canal Street Station alive.

Although Joe is no longer with us, we as a committee are doing our part in keeping his dreams alive. So, on Sept. 24 and 25, once again, we are having his annual Canal Street Historic Festival, On Route 20 in Duanesburg. We are inviting everyone to experience a walk back in time, with an antique car show, cider pressing, blacksmithing, and gas engines.

And while you are doing this, shop our local vendors. A farmers’ market is being provided by Schoharie Valley Farms. Enjoy a delicious chicken barbecue provided by Barbeque Delights. We will also have pony rides for the children.

For your listening pleasure, the Loosely Wound String Band will be performing on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. We will also have a model scale of a Dutch barn with Everett Rau telling the history of the barn.

Also, many of our local businesses have donated wonderful prizes for our raffle table; this is a must-see! We are also hosting a Red Cross blood drive in Joe’s memory on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call me today to schedule your donation appointment at 225-8731.

Come and enjoy a family, fun-filled weekend.
