Older people can’t live in the homes we worked so hard for

To the Editor:

I’m suffering from school tax shock in New Scotland.

It’s a shame when our house was built in the early 1950s how things have changed.

Our family and friends worked approximately 2 years on the house before we moved in.

When I opened this year’s tax bill, I saw it had jumped over $200. From last year. Why: We knew it would go up some —but this much?

It’s getting so that many older retired people can’t live in their home that they love and worked so long and hard for.

There has to be an answer to this question. I know without a doubt that there are many others wondering the same thing.

We never had any of our children even go to the Voorheesville schools.

— 1. My husband was a veteran.

— 2. We are both over 80 years old.

— 3. We have Star savings.

With living on a fixed income, it keeps getting harder.

We are beginning to sound a lot like the people who live in Guilderland.

Help!

Terrible

I wish folks who had kids in the school system would pay the taxes. If you're retired, or if you don't have kids in the system, you shouldn't have to pay!
