To the Editor:

The last paragraph in the letter “I have never been abused by any priest or nun” in the Sept. 5 Enterprise compelled me to respond.

The writer states that she will never believe that the beloved Bishop Hubbard ever abused anyone. He may or may not have.

The investigation into the charges will reveal the truth.

What troubled me was the closed mindset this person exhibits. Many Catholics would seem to share the cult-like belief that protecting the institution of the church and its priests is paramount.

This very ethos is what has enabled the abuse of innocent children for far too long.
