VILLAGE NOTES

— Miss Ethel Crookes will go to Syracuse on Sunday. Miss Crookes will have charge of the “Spelling Bee” girls at the State fair which will be held at Syracuse Sept. 11 to 16.

— J. Elwood Pangburn has purchased the residence of Mrs. N. A. Sturges, adjoining his meat market on Maple avenue. Possession will be given Oct. 1.

WOLF HILL

Miss Kate Simmons of Elsmere who was engaged to teach the school the coming year regrets she is obliged to withdraw her contract on account of an injury received in an automobile accident in June.

EAST GALLUPVILLE

As Monday was an ideal day, nearly everybody was out for a ride; at least we thought so, for the roads were lined with autos. Horses are a thing of the past.

THOMPSON’S LAKE

Ora, the four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Quay, suffered a broken arm last Thursday when she fell from a straw sack. Dr. F. H. Hurst reduced the fracture. She was taken by the doctor to the hospital at Schenectady where an X-ray was taken to see that the bones were properly set. They were pronounced perfect. The little patient is doing very nicely.

FAIR NOTES

Albany County Market Gardeners expect keen competition for the honors won by them last year with their exhibit of fruit and vegetables. Schenectady and Troy are after them.

We have just received word that Mrs. Eden of Woodlawn Riding school will enter several horses: The Sheik, a ladies’ saddle horse; The Governor, a gentleman’s driving horse and of the 175 pound saddle class; Dexter, a saddle and driving pony; and Billy Boy, a high class black saddle pony. It is likely that Mr. Brainard will enter a spotted pony and it is hoped that Nathan Hatch will bring out Pennywise. Special effort will be made to get several other owners to show also.

The grandstand booths are all sold to exhibitors, and many other places are leased. Automobile dealers are being assigned space for exhibits. The local auto dealers will be there: Makely Bros. will show the Nash; Altamont Motor Sales Co., the Chevrolet; Helderberg Motor Co., the Ford products.

State troopers will be on hand to keep things moving smoothly at all times, and to guard against any of the light-fingered gentry who may visit the village on fair week.
