Guilderland’s Northwest Passage will save lives

To the Editor:

What proved to be elusive for centuries, Norwegian Roald Amundsen completed in 1906 — the first passage through the Canadian Arctic often referred to as the Northwest Passage.

Thanks to the tenacity of Supervisor Peter Barber and the construction skills of the highway department under Superintendent Greg Wier, Guilderland has successfully completed its own Northwest Passage, the long sought-after safe route to access Western Avenue via Mercy Care Lane and Winding Brook Drive.

Patrons of the Guilderland Public Library and visitors and residents of two other major institutions have been blocked for decades from this passage. This will save lives and reduce property damage for many years to come.
